The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, on Thursday, 4th December 2025, hosted the Director General of the Nigerian Tourism Development Authority (NTDA), Dr. Olayiwola Awakan and his team in Abuja as part of an ongoing familiarisation and strategic engagement between both institutions.
The discussion centred on how Nigeria can strengthen its tourism visibility across the world by leveraging the Ministry’s 109 foreign missions. From promoting iconic attractions like Yankari Reserve, Obudu Plateau, the Great Walls of Kano, the sand dunes of the North, to spotlighting our contemporary stories and slave-route heritage, both teams aligned on the need for stronger, clearer storytelling about Nigeria.

The DG shared NTDA’s ongoing work on new promotional videos that will be deployed across missions, highlighting Nigeria’s culture, landscapes, and historical depth. He also spoke on developing tourism reception points at missions, nurturing cultural ambassadors, and expanding digital tools that showcase Nigeria to a global audience.
The Honourable Minister expressed the Ministry’s readiness to deepen collaboration, including supporting Nigeria’s presence at global platforms such as ITB Berlin, ensuring the world recognises that Nigeria is firmly back on the global tourism stage.
NTDA and the Ministry agreed on a unified approach that strengthens cultural diplomacy, boosts global visibility, and drives investment into Nigeria’s tourism assets.
