The Nigerian Tourism Development Authority (NTDA) has reinforced its commitment to promoting Nigeria’s cultural heritage with a renewed pledge of support for the 2025 Eyo Festival, following a courtesy visit to the Iga Idunganran Palace in Lagos.

During the visit, the Director General of the NTDA, Dr. Ola Awakan, was warmly received by His Royal Majesty, Oba Rilwan Akiolu I, who offered royal blessings and commended the Authority for its growing involvement in cultural preservation and tourism development. The engagement signaled a strengthened collaboration between the NTDA and the Lagos Royal Court to elevate one of the nation’s most historic festivals.

The Oba described the Eyo Festival as the heartbeat of Lagos tradition and a sacred heritage that must be protected for future generations. He encouraged the DG to ensure the festival continues to reflect the true spirit and identity of the Lagos people.

Dr. Awakan reiterated NTDA’s commitment to working closely with the Palace, Lagos Island authorities, and the 2025 Eyo Festival Committee to elevate the festival into a world class cultural product while preserving its authenticity. He also sought the Oba’s guidance as he settles into his role as head of Nigeria’s tourism regulatory body.

The visit ended with a warm reception hosted by the Chairman of Lagos Island Local Government and Chairman of the 2025 Eyo Festival Committee, Hon. Taiwo Oyekan, who welcomed the partnership and pledged full cooperation for a memorable 2025 edition.

Dr. Awakan was accompanied by the NTDA South West Zonal Coordinator, Mrs. Alice Akinsola, and other senior officials which reflects strong institutional backing for the revival and global promotion of this cherished Lagos tradition.
