Mastercard is seeking a partnership with the Lagos State Government to develop global tourism payment solutions, enabling seamless and secure transactions for tourists, businesses, and stakeholders while boosting the state’s tourism sector.

A delegation from Mastercard, led by the West Africa Country Manager Mrs. Folashade Femi- Lawal, met with the Honourable Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, to explore a partnership that will enhance global payment solutions for Lagos’ tourism sector in her office on Wednesday.

Mastercard proposed a dedicated payment engine for the Ministry, enabling seamless and secure transactions for tourists, businesses, and stakeholders. The initiative aims to facilitate international payments, streamline transactions across the tourism ecosystem, and support SMEs in accepting global payments.

Commissioner Benson-Awoyinka welcomed the collaboration while disclosing that the Ministry is already working on a similar project. She emphasized Lagos State’s commitment to leveraging technology for a world-class tourism experience. “Lagos is a global destination, and secure, efficient payment solutions are essential to enhancing visitor experience and economic growth,” she stated.

This partnership aligns with Lagos State’s vision of positioning itself as Africa’s leading hub for tourism, arts, and entertainment.
