Key players in Nigeria’s tourism and hospitality industry are calling for the urgent reenactment of the NTDA Act 2022, stressing that updated legislation is critical to attracting investment and accelerating sector-wide growth.

The appeal reflects growing concern that regulatory gaps are limiting the industry’s ability to reach its full economic potential.

This was a key outcome of the National Hospitality and Tourism Stakeholders Meeting in Abuja, themed “Shaping the Future of Nigerian Tourism Together.”

The meeting brought together stakeholders from across the ecosystem including government, private sector players, investors, development partners, and industry professionals, all aligned on strengthening Nigeria’s tourism sector.

A major highlight was the call to move tourism to the Concurrent List to enable stronger collaboration between federal and state governments.

Stakeholders also emphasized:

* The need for a unified standard across the hospitality sector

* Stronger collaboration and institutional synergy

* Alignment with Nigeria’s economic diversification agenda

* Clearer regulatory frameworks and improved coordination

The forum reaffirmed a shared commitment to positioning Nigeria as a competitive global tourism destination, driving job creation, investment, and national development.

In his remarks, the Director General, NTDA, Dr. Olayiwola Awakan GrPr, highlighted the three pillars of tourism: attractions, hospitality, and transportation, noting that Nigeria’s growth depends on how well these are developed and connected.
