Africa’s biggest street party, Carnival Calabar explore COVID-19 protocols ahead of 2020 festival

Organisers of Carnival Calabar, Africa’s biggest street party, and the Festival team have met with the Cross River State Commissioner for Health to find a way to host a COVID-19 protocol compliant festival. 

The team led by the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor and Chairman of the Calabar Carnival and Festival Committee, Hon Ken Aklah had far reaching discussions with the commissioner.

On her part, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Betta Edu reassured the team that a well tailored festival in compliance COVID-19 protocols is achievable.

Saying the Ministry and the COVID-19 Taskforce will give all the necessary support for the implementation of yet another Cross River model that will be worthy of emulation.

The meeting had in attendance, the Executive Secretary of the Carnival Commission, Hon Austin Cobham, the Snr Special Assistant on Tourism and the State’s marketing consultant, Mr. Agweye Emmanuel of PIS-Limited among others.
